Energy Rating and U-Value Calculations
We are updating our energy rating methodology and U-value calculations to provide greater flexibility, expanded product options, and continued compliance with current and future UK building regulations.
From Monday 5th January 2026, all window and door energy ratings and U-value calculations will be delivered through the ERC / PLC scheme. This change does not affect existing energy ratings—all ratings remain unchanged, ensuring consistent performance, certification, and regulatory compliance.
What This Means for You
-
No change to current energy ratings or product performance
-
Continued compliance with Part L Building Regulations
-
A single, consistent framework for energy ratings and PAS24 accreditation
We already operate under the ERC scheme for PAS24 certification, and this update brings all compliance and energy performance calculations under one recognised system.
Expanded Glass and Door Calculations
The move to the ERC / PLC scheme allows us to extend our energy rating capabilities, including:
-
6.8 laminated glass calculations
-
Door energy ratings
-
Greater flexibility for bespoke and specialist specifications
This ensures our trade customers can confidently specify products that meet energy efficiency requirements without compromise.
PLC Installer Scheme Information
Trade customers wishing to register under the PLC installer scheme can choose from the following annual options:
-
£220 + VAT when frames and glass are supplied by SWC
-
£440 + VAT when customers source their own glass
Where glass is supplied independently, a simple audit process is required to confirm that the specification matches our licensed energy rating calculations.
Why the PLC Energy Rating Scheme?
The PLC scheme provides a streamlined and efficient compliance process, helping manufacturers and installers to:
-
Reduce administrative workload
-
Adapt to evolving energy efficiency standards
-
Maintain long-term competitiveness in the window and door market
This approach supports clarity, consistency, and future-proof compliance.
